Description
It’s 2003, and the world is a different place after 9/11. Shadi, a Muslim teenager living in the United States, is all too aware of the increased hostility and discrimination facing her community. She tries to keep her head down and avoid trouble, but it’s hard to ignore the hate crimes, the FBI surveillance, and the constant fear. Shadi’s world is further turned upside down when her brother is killed in Iraq, and her family begins to unravel. Her father becomes withdrawn and distant, her mother sinks into depression, and her sister lashes out in anger. Shadi feels lost and alone, until she meets Ali, a boy who is also struggling to come of age in the wake of tragedy.
